Introduction

Access Data Systems is the developer of two Warehouse Management Systems, one with Spectrum24 radio-frequency (RF) hand-helds and one with batch hand-helds. Both systems fit the needs and budgets of small to medium-sized manufacturing and distribution operations.

The decision of whether to select an RF or batch implementation depends upon warehouse size and complexity, incoming and outgoing volume, the number of hand-helds required, and the available budget. Turn-key RF implementations start at about $60,000, and batch systems start at about $15,000. As a general rule, RF systems provide a better pay-back if three or more hand-helds are required. The systems run on desktop PCs, keeping the price reasonable without sacrificing performance. The RF configuration includes at least two PCs and a local area network, either Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 98/2000/XP.

The systems include any of the hand-held terminals manufactured by Symbol Technologies, bar code printers manufactured by Zebra Technologies, and laser printers manufactured by Hewlett Packard. These three U. S. companies not only manufacturer high-quality equipment but also provide superior service and support when needed.

Access 1000 Warehouse Management Systems are available only in the continental United States and only from Access Data Systems, operating from its Norristown, Pennsylvania, location. We travel to your location for the requirements definition, installation and training, and we provide remote or on-site support as required.

The Spectrum24 Radio-Frequency System

Access 1000 RF was designed from the bottom up to use radio-frequency hand-held terminals in a fully integrated, warehouse management system.

RF hand-helds control all warehouse activity by capturing product and location bar codes during receiving, put-away, movement, order fulfillment and physical inventory.

Because events are captured as they occur, errors are eliminated, inventory accuracy is assured and inventory is more readily available to meet customer needs.

We integrate Access 1000 with your existing (business system) applications. Access 1000 receives transactions for purchase orders, sales orders, and invoicing, and reports transactions with shipping and receiving information, issues and receipts, and inventory adjustments due to physical inventory/cycle count activity. Integration with existing applications can be either event-driven or on-demand.

Access 1000 includes all the reporting and utility functions required for a fully operational environment. Some of the features provided include security access, backup and recovery, transaction archive, standard reports and user report writer.

The system provides the warehouse supervisor with many operational tools, including label design and printing, wave planning, inventory information review screens, order management screens, lookup screens, etc. The system also provides utilities to ensure synchronization is maintained between inventory information maintained by Access 1000 and by the business system.

Access 1000 RF requires two PCs on a local area network, one for RF control and one for supervisor administration. A dedicated file server is not required, but can be provided if necessary. Additional PCs may be added as required for large installations, real-time integration with business systems and distribution of printing and computing services.

The Batch System

Access 1000 Batch is a derivative of Access 1000 RF and can be upgraded to Access 1000 RF as required by future needs.

Access 1000 Batch provides comparable features as Access 1000 RF with the following exceptions:

• The system may be operated using a single PC
• A local area network is not required.
• Batch hand-helds are used instead of RF hand-helds
• Collected data must be up-loaded from the hand-held to the PC
• Selected hand-held features, such as providing for printing bar code labels directly from the hand-held, are not available.
