Inventory is "quarantined" as a way of including it in the inventory, but making it not available for release.
Sites may be set up so that all inventory is to be received in a quarantined status. Alternatively, inventory can be designated by SKU or by supplier to be quarantined when received. The site may also be set up so that inventory is never automatically quarantined when received. In that case, if quarantine status is to be used, it is applied to individual inventory elements.
If inventory is designated to be put into quarantine automatically when received, it is not scheduled for put-away. Instead it can either remain at the receiving location awaiting inspection or be moved (see Moving Inventory) to a quarantine location.
To assign quarantine status to inventory or to remove quarantine status, the hand-held operator selects the Quarantine function from the main menu. Then he/she either chooses to apply or remove inventory. Then the location bar code is scanned, the product bar code is scanned and the quantity is entered. The system performs validation and either takes the required action or reports the discrepancy for confirmation or correction.
When inventory is placed into a quarantine status, any pending put-away schedules for the inventory are deleted. When the quarantine status is removed, the inventory is automatically scheduled for put-away.
