Access 1000 includes many self-checking features to ensure that the inventory database is protected and valid.
The system date/time stamps and records all inventory activity in chronological order into files in daily archive folders. See Archive review for a discussion of the tools provided to review archive information.
Access 1000 is structured to provide for continuous operation. There is no inherent requirement to shut the system down for maintenance. The system can even be backed up while in operation. However, if the system can be shut down periodically, it will take advantage of the lack of activity to perform a backup of the static inventory database and to reorganize files for maximum efficiency.
As with any database environment, Access 1000 expects its data links and pointers to be maintained in the required structure. This happens automatically, of course, but data can be damaged by an unexpected hardware failure. After recovering from this type of failure, the supervisor can select built-in utilities to validate data and report problems found. These are then reported to Access Data Systems to receive immediate assistance in repairing the damage.
